Magas.
Magas is the young capital of Ingushetia, founded in the 1990s in the west of the republic, about 30 km from Vladikavkaz. It is named after medieval Maghas, the capital of Alania, and its main landmark is the Tower of Concord, built in the national style.

Construction began in 1994 as a new capital for the republic, and in the early 2000s Magas took over that role from Nazran. Its name comes from medieval Maghas, the capital of Alania destroyed in the 13th century; according to one theory, the new city stands on its site. Magas is growing fast: about a hundred people lived here in 2001, and more than ten thousand by 2019.
Culture & traditions
The main landmark is the Tower of Concord, about 100 metres tall, completed in 2013 in the style of traditional Ingush towers. Planned from scratch, the city has wide streets, fountains and modern public buildings. The name intrigued medieval writers too: in Persian "magas" means "fly", and they played on it in their texts.
Practical information
Magas Airport serves the capital and neighbouring Nazran; the nearest railway station is in Nazran, about 8 km away. The federal Caucasus highway runs nearby. The climate is continental, with summer averages of +21 to +26 °C and winters around freezing. The best time to visit is May to October.
