Camera traps confirm bison movements into new Caucasus areas

Animals were recorded beyond their main range.

The Caucasus Nature Reserve reports bison on the left bank of the Belaya: tourist photographs and three camera traps confirmed their presence near Mavrikoshka and the Khuko ridge. Earlier reports of crossings lacked photographic evidence.

Researchers suspect a group moved, but the images may show one male. New habitats matter for the population’s future; nearby livestock grazing also brings veterinary risks and potential conflicts.
