ITMO researchers and colleagues in China and Canada calculated how the direction of electromagnetic spin traces a cone. They combined waves with different frequencies and polarizations travelling at right angles.

RSF reported the work on 30 October. The paper appeared in Physical Review B on 2 September. This is fundamental theoretical research; using it to transmit information remains a prospect.
