Researchers, reserve staff and volunteers prepared old barrels and other scrap for transport. The Russian Geographical Society reports that removal by helicopter is planned for 2027.
Temperature recorders were installed to monitor permafrost. This season’s result is preparation and monitoring, not completed waste removal. RGS names Nornickel and the Taimyr reserve administration as project supporters.
