Two male saker falcons, over a year old, were released in Michurinsk. Raised at the Galichya Gora nursery in Lipetsk Region, they had been prepared for life in the wild. Rosprirodnadzor reported the release on 23 October.
Specialists from the Russian Falcon centre conducted the release with the agency’s permission. The species is listed in Russia’s Red Data Book. This is one stage of a conservation programme; releasing two birds does not establish that the population has recovered.
