Tomsk State University researchers modelled an ice sphere striking steel layers above an ice block. Their calculations describe how metal deformation and ice failure change with the number of layers.

The Russian Science Foundation reported the work on 15 October; the research paper appeared on 25 September. This is numerical modelling, not a test of finished aircraft protection. Assessing whether real vehicles remain operational after such damage is still planned.
